Why is this the blog title? You may be asking yourself as you are lounging there staring at your monitor, smartphone, or tablet. I remember a long while ago, when I was a very young student. A child who was naïve and knew nothing of the world outside. A teacher told me something that I thought to be very interesting. Yes interesting to a 12-year-old boy whom found cartoons to be the best thing ever. It was in regards to the late Socrates.
“I only know that I know nothing.” It was interesting to me because here is someone saying they know nothing. Why would someone admit they knew nothing? Wasn’t it a goal in life to know as much as possible? It baffled my young and undeveloped mind. I knew a lot of stuff then, or so I thought I did. It was not until much later I really understood what Socrates was saying. Sitting and pondering on this quote and its implications it slowly became clearer. I realized, I knew far less than I thought I did. This was the key. Knowing one’s own ignorance’s allows one to be able to gain new knowledge and insight. The only real way to gain wisdom.
That, I believe, fits nicely with why I created this blog. To ask questions of the world surrounding me and of myself. Those questions in turn, leading me to the answers I seek. Now, is a time, when information is literally just a click away. The internet, the home of knowledge, social media, and everything in between. Can we not use it for good, instead of spewing hate towards one another?
